{When you get in CPT, turn battery on and check Diamond J gauge for overtemp or overtorque. Gauge will flash "O E" twice per second if exceeded.}

check for binding

17. Instrument Lts……………….. OFF
C18. Upper Avionics Master……. OFF
19 Cabin Heat Valve……………. OFF {not installed in CPT's, but on right behind upper CB's}

29. Caution Lt. Test……………. FIVE NORMAL, press button at least 2 sec FULL PANEL, once chip lights clear CONTINUITY CHECKS

{Five normal are Trans Oil pressure, Hydraulic Pressure, Eng Out, Rotor Low RPM, Gen Fail}

31. Force Trim………………….. ON
32. Fuel quantity……………….. CHECKED __ GALLONS {old Bravo 76 gal, new Bravo/Charlie 91 gal}
 
 
 
 

START CHECKLIST
 

1. Twist Grip…………………… Twist grip to full open, back to flight idle,  Then push idle release button and turn until fully closed

3. Rotors……………………….. CLEAR ON THE RIGHT, NO TIEDOWNS, "Clear on the Left, No Tiedowns"

5. Engine Start…………………. SIR, GET THE FUEL VALVE IN CASE OF A HOT START;
                                                          TELL ME IF THE ROTORS AREN'T TURNING BY 25%Ng;

6. Engine/Xmissn Oil Pressure.. ENGINE OIL PRESSURE IN THE GREEN{min 50psi@Ng<79, 90@79-94%, 115@>94%}

PRETAKEOFF CHECKLIST {Bravo only}
 

{Both Hands must be on controls at 100% Nr. If less, you may remove left hand if you guard collective by pressing with knee}

1. Twist Grip…………………… Slowly rotate twist grip to 70% Ng
                                                        70% Ng {Raised to 70% to compensate for generator}
2. Main Gen Switch……………RESET THEN ON,
                                                        GENERATOR LIGHT OUT
                                                        RISE IN VOLTS AND LOAD

3. Avionics……………………... BOTH (UHF), ON (VHF), AND STANDBY (XPONDER)
4. Loadmeter…………………… CHECKED, BELOW 50%
5. ECS………………………….. ON or OFF or FAN
6. Flight controls……………….. I. Depress Force Trim button, move cyclic in X no more than 2 in, check TPP {no artificial feel}
                                                          II. Release Force Trim button, move cyclic in X no more than 2 in, check TPP {artificial feel}
                                                          III. SIR, TURN THE FORCE TRIM SWITCH OFF, he will put hand on switch
                                                                I CONCUR, he will turn force trim switch off
                                                                                   'Force Trim off'
                                                                 Check the Cyclic X
                                                                  Move both pedals 2 in
                                                                  Raise the collective until Low Rotor RPM lights with horn, then lower fully

                                                       IV. SIR, TURN THE HYDRAULIC BOOST OFF, he will put hand on switch
                                                               I CONCUR, he will turn off switch, Hyd Boost illuminates
                                                                                   "Hydraulic Boost off, light on"
                                                               Check the Cyclic X, should be bumpy
                                                               Raise collective then lower
                                                        V. SIR, TURN THE HYDRAULIC BOOST SWITCH ON
                                                               I CONCUR, he turns switch on
                                                                                    "Hydraulic Boost on, light off"
                                                        VI. SIR, TURN THE FORCE TRIM SWITCH ON
                                                               I CONCUR, he turns switch on
                                                                                    "Force Trim on"
                                                        VII. CONTROL CHECKS COMPLETE    {1/1/3/2 movements per cyclic x}

7. Engine Anti-Icing…………… CHECKED OFF, NOT REQUIRED or
                                                         ANTI-ICING ON, RISE IN TOT {TOT should rise 10-15 because air diverted from cooling}
8. Twist Grip…………………… GAUGES AND CAUTION LIGHTS NORMAL, {Low Rotor RPM}
                                                         CLEAR ON THE RIGHT, "Clear on the Left"
                                                        Give spool up signal
                                                        TWIST GRIP FULL OPEN, NOT TO EXCEED 40% TORQUE
9. Nf/Nr ……………………….. 100% {Separate from twist grip this time so GOV RPM can be beeped if needed}
10. Flight Idle………………….. Instructor will snap twist grip to flight idle to check his idle release
                                                        CHECK, Ng STABILIZED AT ____% {62 +/- 3}
 
 
 
 

COMM/NAV CHECKLIST {Bravo only}
 

1. Clock………………………… WOUND AND SET
2. Attitude Gyro……………….. CAGED {aligns gyro}
3. Barometric Altimeter……….. SET TO FIELD ELEVATION {178ft}
4. RMI…………………………. Check to see if RMI is within 10 degrees of wet compass and bars on instr. panel aligned
                                                        If not, check Lights, A/C, Pitot Heat, and Defog Blower are Off {LAPD}
                                                        Put slave switch in Free position and adjust with clockwise/counterclockwise
                                                        Move switch to Slave
                                                        ALIGNED AND SLAVED

5. Radar Altimeter…………….. 1. Set bug to 25 ft
                                                        2. Press Test button, needle should rise to 50 ft +/- 5 with an off flag
                                                        3. Release. As needle drops past DH bug, DH light will illuminate and tone will sound
                                                        4. Push DH button and set back to zero
                                                        TEST AND SET

6. VHF…………………………. 1. Flip #1 and #2 up on receive panel for both pilots {UHF/VHF receive}
                                                        2. Select #2 on MIC selector knob for both pilots {VHF transmit}
                                                        3. Pull On/Off button to remove squelch and adjust volume
                                                        4. Set in main frequency in Stdby (121.95) {Instructor common freq}
                                                        5. Push white button to toggle and set in secondary in Stdby (121.4) {Tower}
                                                        6. Both pilots push in trigger fully, looking for "T" to appear in display
                                                        7. Select #1 on MIC selector knob {UHF transmit}
                                                        TEST AND SET

7. VOR……………………….… 1. Set first freq. in secondary position (112.3) {North Whiting Field}
                                                        2. Toggle with white button, set second freq. (115.9) {Crestview}
                                                        TUNED AND SET

8. Transponder…………………. 1. Turn selector to Test look for all 8's, modes, carrots, then set back to Stdby
                                                        2. Push Emer button checking for 7700
                                                        3. Set in 1200 by adjusting digit under carrot, then pushing button to move carrot
                                                        TEST AND SET

9. UHF…………………………. 1. Turn squelch off, adjust volume, turn squelch on
                                                        2. Check Guard reads 243.0
                                                        3. Check in Manual that each adjuster works by moving one up/down
                                                        4. Set Preset to Base freq, checking one up/down {Eightball 5, FactoryHand 6}
                                                        5. Check Both selected
                                                        6. Check Read is showing the correct Base freq.
                                                        7. Move Bright dim all the way clockwise to test, setting in desired brightness
                                                        TEST AND SET
 

CALLS: {Needs to be memorized}

You should be on Base… { ch 5 or 6}

EIGHTBALL/FACTORYHAND BASE, EIGHTBALL/FACTORYHAND ____  OUTBOUND WITH NUMBER 1 AND 2 {number refers to student's position on skeds board}
SIR, SWITCH ME UP ATIS {ch1}… Instructor will get ATIS but ensure you heard it properly
SIR SWITCH ME UP GROUND {ch3} … {Do NOT make call until takeoff checklist is complete, because to taxi you need to takeoff and ground does want to wait}

TAKEOFF CHECKLIST

{Both hands must be on controls once Nr spools up}
 

1. Twist Grip………………….. ALL GAUGES AND CAUTION LIGHTS IN THE GREEN, {Low Rotor RPM is ok}
                                                      CLEAR ON THE RIGHT, "Clear on the Left"

                                                      Adjust twist grip to full open
                                                      Nf/Nr 100%
